Does a virtual IT environment mean there is no actual hardware?
Well, not necessarily. Although hardware can be drastically reduced in a completely virtual environment, there is still a need for some sort of device to communicate with the cloud (unless you’re E.T., of course). In the case of virtual desktops, these are often referred to as thin clients and can be the size of a text book and cost a fraction of what a normal PC would cost. Furthermore, when it comes to virtual exchange (email) and storing your data in the cloud, hardware again is extremely reduced since you no longer need a physical exchange server for your email or the actual file servers for your data. Virtual IT is truly a saver of space, money and energy while being a tremendous boost to productivity, efficiency and mobility.
If we try out a virtual desktop, can we still run the software we need for day-to-day operations, like Word or Excel? What about industry specific software like Quickbooks or Tabs3?
Yes. The applications would be installed on the server within our secure data center and would essentially serve up the application through the cloud to your virtual desktop, just like your old PC’s processor would do.
Is this a stand-alone service package or can I combine this with other Connected Office services?
No. All of our service packages are meant to work seamlessly with other Connected Office services. You can mix and match as you see fit but we would recommending talking to us about how we could put together a service package that best fits the needs of your organization and budget.
